Japanese passport holders can enter the Philippines visa-free for short stays of up to 30 days for tourism, business, visiting friends/family, or other temporary purposes, as long as they have a passport valid for at least six months beyond their intended stay and a confirmed return or onward ticket.
For visits longer than 30 days or for purposes beyond short-term tourism or business, Japanese travellers cannot rely solely on visa-free entry and must obtain a valid Philippine visa before travel. In such cases, Japanese citizens can use the Philippine e-Visa system to apply online for a 9(a) Temporary Visitor’s Visa if they are residing in Japan. The e-Visa portal (evisa.gov.ph) allows applicants to request single-entry or multiple-entry visas (e.g., six-month or one-year validity) for extended stays or repeated travel, with supporting documents uploaded electronically.
Once approved, the e-Visa is issued electronically and can be presented in digital or printed form upon arrival in the Philippines. Before applying, Japanese travellers should review eligibility criteria, required documents, processing times, and fees on the official Philippine e-Visa website to ensure a smooth application process.
